They knew each other since she was 7 years old.  When Joan was in her senior year of high school and Mikey was navigating his second year in university, she asked him to help her on a school project poster using his 'organizational skills' as the main reasoning for his helping hand.  They began dating soon after and they found out that they shared a love for travel and adventure.  

On a trip through Europe last year, Mikey waited anxiously until their last city hop in Paris to take out that diamond ring he held close throughout the entire trip.  He set up the video camera, saying that he wanted to get a video clip of them in front of the Eiffel Tower.  As Joan was smiling happily into the lens, Mikey slowly walked over Joan, took out the ring and surprised her with the ultimate romantic gesture with a proposal in the city of love.
