A minimalist, neutral design by Toast Events + a laid-back, vibrant, hilarious couple + an urban rooftop breezy summer day was the perfect concoction that was Liz and Ryan’s wedding day. To top it off, Liz with the assistance of her sweet mom baked her own wedding pie to enjoy with Ryan later than evening as they danced the night away to Celine Dion classics at the Andaz Ottawa Byward Market hotel. Liz and Ryan brought together the best wedding vendors in Ottawa: Katherine from Pollen Nation Floral Studio who infused all white elegance with a tropical edge to Liz’s florals. Lori Dyck of Showpony executed a mid-height ponytail and somehow made it look both glamourous and effortless. And of course, Klava Zykova brought that au naturelle aesthetic that elevated the entire look. Liz went for a vintage-inspired beaded BHLDN wedding dress that might as well belong in my own closet.
When I first got into wedding photography, I didn’t realize that one of the many humbling outcomes of photographing weddings of wonderful people is that there is a high likelihood that they eventually become friends. And that’s what happened with Liz + Ryan, way before their chic Andaz wedding even took place. Texting Liz back and forth for months on end on hilarious, weird stuff not even wedding-related has been so much fun and I hope our awkward bantering continues for a long time to come! #soulmates
Thank you both SO MUCH for including us in your celebrations! A night we’ll never forget.
The view from the Andaz Ottawa Byward Market hotel is unbeatable! Every wedding that takes place downtown should start right here.
Liz’s romper was to die for! Perfect colour, super comfortable and it looks so good on camera!
A little gift for her longtime girlfriends!
Love their sense of humour!
Liz and Ryan opted for a first look closeby. It gave them plenty of time alone together before the celebrations and they got TONS and tons of portraits done before the ceremony.
This bridge will always be a beautiful spot for photos!
These two were laughing the entire time - I could hardly get a serious look from them. All laughs and smiles!
Liz was such a natural!
Their bridal party joined in for a few minutes and it was as fun as it looks…
Her best girls!
You don’t necessarily need formal bridesmaids dresses. You can have your ladies choose dresses from their own closets based on the colour palette of the day. Mismatched will always be a favourite.
After we finished their portraits, we all headed on over to the Andaz Hotel early enough for them to relax, eat and enjoy more time together alone before the ceremony.
Liz was holding back tears as she walked down the aisle.
And Ryan was equally emotional!
But within minutes, they were laughing their heads off!
The ‘We Are Married!!’ look!
Liz and Ryan are such kind, selfless people. They honoured Liz’z aunt and uncle who celebrated their 50th anniversary that very same day! I initially thought that it was their 25th, but it’s their 50TH! HOW inspiring is that!?
After the ceremony, guests headed up to the rooftop at the Copper Spirits and Sights lounge where everyone enjoyed breathtaking views of Ottawa’s downtown core.
The famous pie made by Liz and her sweet mama!
