Ali and I bought my engagement ring together. I was still a student and he had just started his first real job, so we saved what we could to get one made specially for me. A ruby for my birthday and a sapphire for his. We didn't have enough to get a matching band. But we said we'd buy one eventually.
As time has gone by, the importance of buying that band diminished the more we collected experiences instead. Whether or not I end up getting one, I don't know, but I do know this: the value of material things that seemed so important to have at one point are always nice to have, but the worth of memories, moments and experiences increase exponentially with time. I want to hold onto those as much as I can.⠀
