Ashlin and Blake met two years ago to this month at a science policy conference when Ashlin decided to join a table of other young people at lunch. They found out that they had similar research interests and kept in touch over the year sending research articles to one another and pep talking about grad school. The next year, at the very same conference, the group that they had hung out with weren’t there, so Ashlin and Blake buddied up attending most of the same panels and enjoying meals together. They soon realized that they had a lot more in common beyond research. Their interests in camping, travel, family and friends aligned as well as their view of the world and future aspirations. After a few weeks of constant chatting, they had the ‘where do we go from here’ conversation. It was clear to both of them that they were crazy about each other, but starting a relationship would upend both of their lives. So they decided that it was worth it to go for it. Three months later, Blake proposed, and they spent their first two weeks as an engaged couple on a trip to India to attend one of Blake’s best friends’ wedding.
Ashlin and Blake are getting married next year at 50 Sussex, one of the newest wedding venues in Ottawa with views of the Ottawa River, Gatineau Hills and Rideau Falls behind them.
For their engagement shoot, we started off a Jackson Cafe at the Ottawa Art Gallery then headed on over to the University of Ottawa to catch some of the fall foliage and exposed brick walls. Here are a few of my favourites from their urban fall engagement shoot!
