National Gallery of Canada Engagement | Val + Paul

Val and Paul’s love story started when Paul passed Val his number on a napkin.

Rewind a few days prior, Val and Paul met by pure chance through work a few years ago.  Paul was an AV technician in Toronto and ended working at Val’s work’s annual event and spent a few days in Ottawa.  Her role was to be the power-point girl, the one who pushes the button to change the slides for the speakers. She was really not looking forward to this event and wasn’t at all expecting that she’d be meeting her future husband.  Although they had chatted a bit over the few days that Paul was working the event, nothing really ‘happened’. Until the last day, when Paul and his crew were starting the tear down of their equipment, Val asked Paul if he had a chance to have a beaver tail (delicious fried-dough pastries!) while in town, to which he responded, ‘no’.  She then told him that he would have to come back to Ottawa.

And that’s when he grabbed a sharpie and a napkin, and wrote down his number.

Val kept that napkin and still has it to this day.

Three years later, after Paul moved to Ottawa to be with Val, and as they watched the sun set across Gatineau Park, Paul proposed to his sunset loving lady.  Val said that everything was picture perfect and it was the best night of their lives!

It was such a breeze photographing these two humble, kind-hearted souls (see my favs of their engagement shoot below!) and I am so honoured to be documenting their special day at Evermore this September!
