Brittany wore her favourite colour - fuchsia pink. A pink sari delicately designed with silver and gold beading all over. With a smile from ear to ear she gleefully entered into the elegantly styled hall filled with her awaiting family and close friends. Immersing her feet into a bowl of mint leaves and water, she looked up to see a golden embroidered cloth held over her head by her sister and close friends, an Iraqi-persian tradition taken from Samer’s side of the family. The suffra, or decorated placemat, lay beautifully on the floor in front of her adorned with flaming candles, honey, sugar and sweets to symbolize a life full of happiness and love. From behind the shaded divider, they both said their ‘I dos’, happily, eagerly and whole-heartedly.
I was thrilled to have captured these sweet moments of Brittany and Samer during this beautiful nikkah (engagement) ceremony. I am so looking forward to photographing their wedding next summer.
Touching up the lips before the big entrance!
Brittany has some good taste in jewellery! What a gorgeous engagement ring.
The suffra filled the room with candles, gifts, sugar, honey and chocolate treats and was the main decorative highlight of the evening.
You can see Brittany's excitement in her smile as she elegantly walked into the main hall.
Smiling that gorgeous smile all evening!
Samer had his very own special entrance as well, sitting behind the room divider where Brittany awaited.
Another beautiful tradition is to rub sugar into granular pieces overtop the embroidered cloth to symbolize enteral sweetness and happiness for the rest of their lives.
She said yes!
A little portrait session before the next fuschia dress...
Samer's sister, Saja, prepared a guessing game on who does what the most or least...many opinions and laughs across the table!
The party starting to let loose after their first dance.
